On 26 August 2024, HM Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, the Deputy Rector for Education of Gdynia Maritime University, Dr Sambor Guze, and the Deputy Rector for Science, Dr Dariusz Barbucha, welcomed to the University the Director of the Director of the Technical Cooperation Division of the International Maritime Organisation, Jose Metheickal.

Gdynia Maritime University experts have for years been involved in the work of the IMO - a specialised UN agency dedicated to maritime issues, especially safety at sea and the prevention of marine pollution by ships, as the co-author of key documents such as conventions, a code, and resolutions. The topic of the meeting was the directions of development of cooperation between UMG and the IMO.
